Privacy Policy

Be Here Meow privacy policy overview

1. Overview

Be Here Meow is a journaling platform. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, the services we rely on to operate the app, and the choices you have.

If you have privacy questions or requests, contact [email protected].

2. Information We Collect

  • Account information such as your name, email address, and authentication method.
  • Journal content and related metadata you create in the app.
  • Optional profile and preference data, such as theme, locale, and selected product settings.
  • Support messages you send through our contact form.
  • Billing customer, subscription, status, and event references when you use a paid plan.
  • Limited technical data such as session information, request metadata, and security logs.

3. How We Use Information

  • To create and maintain your account.
  • To store, retrieve, and synchronize your journal data.
  • To operate product features such as authentication, account recovery, uploads, and support.
  • To secure the service, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot incidents.
  • To understand page performance and improve service reliability using aggregate measurements.

4. Third-Party Services

We use infrastructure and service providers to operate Be Here Meow. These may include:

  • Neon for PostgreSQL database hosting.
  • DigitalOcean for application hosting and supporting infrastructure.
  • Cloudflare R2 for media and uploaded file storage.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics for cookie-free page performance and aggregate traffic measurements.
  • AWS SES for transactional email delivery.
  • Google reCAPTCHA to reduce abuse on public forms.
  • Google OAuth when you choose to sign in with Google.
  • Stripe for hosted checkout, subscription management, and payment processing when paid plans are enabled.
  • Anthropic and OpenAI to generate AI insights, summaries, and image responses from the journal entries and prompts you submit. Entry text and selected context are sent to these providers only when AI features are used.

AI providers process the content you submit to them in order to generate responses. We do not direct them to retain that content for training.

Stripe collects and processes payment details directly on its hosted pages. Be Here Meow does not store card numbers. We retain the Stripe references and subscription status needed to provide and manage paid access.

5. Storage and Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. No service can guarantee absolute security, and you should keep your own copies of important content when appropriate.

We retain data for as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the platform. Backup retention and operational logs may persist for a limited period after content is deleted from the active app.

6. Cookies and Browser Storage

Essential cookies keep you signed in, protect state-changing requests from cross-site attacks, and carry short-lived security state while a Google sign-in is completed. Session and OAuth cookies are HTTP-only. Production cookies use secure transport and same-site restrictions where appropriate.

The app does not load Google Analytics or set analytics cookies. Cloudflare Web Analytics may measure page performance and aggregate traffic without reading or writing cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage, or IndexedDB.

Browser storage keeps account preferences and an offline working copy of journal data on your device. This on-device data supports offline use and synchronization when you reconnect.

Google reCAPTCHA runs on the public contact form as an essential anti-abuse measure. It may process technical data or use Google-managed storage under Google's privacy terms.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. Contact [email protected] to make a request.

In-app account deletion is permanent. When a Stripe customer exists, deletion first cancels that customer and any active subscriptions, then removes the active account, journal entries, sessions, authentication records, matching newsletter subscription, and the current browser's offline journal. Stored media cleanup continues through a retryable background process. Clear site data separately on any other device that may still hold an offline copy.

8. Contact and Updates
